Why Outsource 1099 Reporting?

What is form 1099?

Before knowing why to outsource the 1099 report, you must understand what the form 1099 includes. The IRS Form 1099 is a documentation form that all sizes of businesses use to report their taxable payments that have been made to their vendors and independent contractors. This is used to report certain non-employee compensation and payments that are made for the professional services provided by them, their rental property income, royalties, income from interest and dividends, award and miscellaneous prices that are paid to other businesses or individuals along with the other aspects of their output in sales proceedings. These non-employee compensation are made to freelancers and independent contractors who receive this form for work they’ve performed during the year and use it to report their income to the IRS by submitting the form to the payees as well.

The IRS refers to this document as “information returned” It is a requirement that a filing occurs with earnings of at least $600.00 per tax year. There are many types of 1099 form that determines the revenue by reporting different types of payments.

Why outsource 1099 reporting?

The deadline for the reporting of form 1099 was usually in March but with many of the looming deadlines that many businesses had to encounter in the beginning months of January complied with all the ever-changing tax laws and outsourcing 1099 form preparation by mailing and e-filing them. This worked out well for most of these businesses. The PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hike Act) that was enacted on December 18, 2015, had changed the deadline for filing the 1099 Misc. to January 31st instead of March. The process of outsourcing 1099 has reduced the potential of error thereby significantly decreasing the potential for significant penalties. This is due to the ease in processing of amending when you choose to outsource the 1099 form as now the mail and file dates are done simultaneously.
